I was part of a movement of "dinosaur moms" when I lived in Maryland (Astrodon Johnstoni is the Maryland state dinosaur.) Which is nothing more than this -- dinosaur moms delight in the half-feral nature of the beasties they parent, even as they whisper Shakespeare and Kierkegaard in their ears at night.

Tres Rios

Girl had her first performance with The West Valley Youth Orchestra today at the Tres Rios Nature Festival. Orchestra was an odd choice for this dusty venue, but it was a thrill to see her so confident and in perfect time with her section. She has come a long way. The festival was really well run. There was a girl scout badge if you went around to the different booths and did all the stuff. My badge-happy know-it-all wasn't about to miss that. As for Jones, he made a walking stick. And that boy loves him a stick. Didn't even put his eye out.
